What are some of the differences between mitosis and meiosis?

meiosis is a division that reduces the amount of chromosomes by half so that the offspring does not have doubled the amount. mitosis, happens primarily in somatic(body) cells while meiosis occurs only in gametes ( cells). Meiosis has two stages: meiosis one and two, with the first stage one diploid cell splits into two diploid cells, and then in stage two the two diploid cells then divide into four haploid cell. Mitosis has one stage and doesn't split the amount of chromosomes.
