Is it justified that only Gandhi was made "father of the nation" and not any of the other freedom fighters?

Its high time that we Indians realise that we didn't gain independence only by swinning the wheel. Personally I think it shocking that to this day Indians are allowing the Congress party to endoctrinate us into believing that Gandhi was central to India's independence when in fact he wasn't.
