My friends want to be state troopers with me but they have questions that i cant answer?

ok its like this my friend john and randy have some what the same question well john asked he used to smoke weed every day for a year but he decided he wanted to get into law enforcement he said its been 4 years since he touched smelled or thought about it will it hurt his chances in getting in the nj state trooper academy......ok and randy asked if he smoked weed every once in a while wen he was 19 would he still be able to become a nj state trooper (hes 25 now) oh they also said that weed was the only thing they experimented with.....if any 1 can help me out so i can help them out and answer there question i would greatly appreciate it thnx
